During my boyhood years one of my favorite cartoons was about a flying squirrel and his sidekick, a moose. Rocky and Bullwinkle, they were called. Most of the plots to their cartoons involved Rocky and Bullwinkle having to thwart the sinister plans of a couple of anti-American evildoers, Natasha and Boris. They seemed tame at the time but little did I know they were actually Marxist or Communist agents pretending to be harmless immigrants to America while they were actually enemies.

It was a tense time back then. The US was involved in a cold war with the Soviet Union. Tensions were high and the world was on edge wondering if in the next moment some fiend would unleash an attack that could demolish the whole planet. The cartoon reflected this as Natasha and Boris were forever coming up with their own diabolical plots against everyday Americans.

These cartoon schemes one could compare to an overly autocratic government taking away people’s rights. Such as wondering if the government will allow and encourage commerce or make it nearly impossible with laws and restrictions for things like Mom and Pop stores to survive, or what kind of school your kids can attend, or what vehicle to drive, or maybe stifle the supply of energy.

Maybe they might even come up with new regulations to force the unsuspecting public to buy washing machines that don’t clean, toilets that don’t flush or light bulbs that don’t light up a room. But I digress.

Natasha and Boris printed up fake box tops to destroy the world’s box top economy. Plus they did everything they could to demean and attack Rocky and Bullwinkle, trying to diminish their popularity and effectiveness anyway they could. I think they maybe were telling lies about them or accusing them of crimes they never committed and perhaps even filing endless lawsuits against them. Or maybe I’m just blending cartoon and reality.

But it does seem very similar to what is going on now. Despicable people are trying to advance monstrous schemes that would stop ordinary folks from living the America dream by stifling our rights and freedoms . The kind of rights and freedoms that we took for granted just a few years ago have now all but disappeared. The goal of socialists is in sight as the American Dream is gasping out it’s last breath.

Rocky and Bullwinkle were fictional characters and when they were involved in explosion or crash or fall they would always revive, none the worse for wear. In real life there are serious consequences for these sinister ‘cartoon’ characters trying to infringe even more on our American way of life. So what can we do?

I remember watching Rocky and Bullwinkle and wishing I could help them in their never ending fight with despicable Natasha and Boris. I couldn’t then but there are things we can do to help Rocky Trump and Bullwinkle Vance today.

#1 Vote for those who are most trying to hold on to our American               values outlined in our constitution and support them

#2 Speak out and encourage others to get informed and to vote

#3 And most importantly, pray for our country and it’s leaders perhaps       the Lord will show grace and mercy to us
